The BMW M3 is a high performance car which has been developed by BMW’s motorsport division BMW M. It’s been derived from the E46, E36, E30 and E93/E92/E90 3-series. The M3 is available in sedan, convertible and coupé body configurations.
The first M3 was based on the 1986 model of E-30 3-series and equipped with 2.3 Liters I4 S14 engine. Then E36 based M3 came in the market in 1992 powered by a 6 cylinder engine which could produce 282 HP. Initially it was available in coupé configuration only; other configurations cabriolet/ convertible and sedan/saloon were introduced later in 1994. E46 based M3 hit the market in October, 2000 with the new 3.2 Liters S54 engine which was M-tuned. At that time it had the highest specific output engine with natural aspiration. The fourth generation M3 based on E90/92/93 models was released on the Geneva Auto Show in March, 2007. It has been powered by 4 Liters V8 engine with six-speed manual transmission as standard.
